Established in 1992 with limited resources, Discount Steel emerged as a small metals distributor in the Twin Cities area. With a modest startup of three employees and a 5,000 square foot warehouse, Discount Steel soon experienced steady growth backed by customer demand.

As the company continued to prosper, innovation was required to meet the needs of this ever changing industry. Common preconceived notions that a “steel yard” was that of a “junk yard” were quickly dissolved as Discount Steel implemented changes in the way their products were purchased, displayed, and ultimately sold. Customers appreciated the fresh approach of organized, identifiable, clean materials.

While investing in the future, product selection increased, equipment and machinery were upgraded, and onsite material processing was introduced. Over the years we have experienced successful growth, innovation, and development in all aspects of our company.

Discount Steel is proud to offer our customers over 6,000 product selections, accompanied by 290,000 square feet of warehouse storage, while employing a team of 75 dedicated and qualified employees.
